ReadUp Youth is looking for volunteers for our art event this Saturday, April 19th at Wilbur and Theresa Faiss Park!

Bonner Elementary students had a blast trying out our reading app! Some students event wanted to do another round of the reading comprehension quizzes. We got to speak about the importance of reading to the students, and each student got to pick out a book and a bookmark made by our wonderful volunteers!

We had such a great time reading to the kids at Acelero Learning-Spring Valley-Head Start Preschool! We talked to them about the importance of reading, and they even got to pick out a book of their choice to take home! Some of the kids even got to try out our reading app. The rest of the books were donated to their school library.

In honor of black history month, we want to highlight one of our favorite authors, Zetta Elliott. Elliott is a Black feminist writer of poetry, plays, essays, novels, and stories for children. Having written over thirty books, her work has received a Caldecott Honor, the 2017 Skipping Stones Honor Award, the Paterson Prize for Books for Young Readers, and more.

During February's Author's Corner, Elliott answered questions submitted by students about her written work and creative process. We are super excited to share Elliott’s answer through a podcast interview very soon!

ReadUp Youth is thrilled to announce our partnership with the @dragonkimfoundation! We are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to receive mentorship and a grant of up to $5000 to further our mission of providing books to underprivileged children.

ReadUp Youth packed over 300 bookmarks and origami hearts made with the help of our volunteers and paired them with our acquired books for our book bags! These will be provided to elementary and middle school children to encourage literacy and education.

Our founders, Celine and Ro, spent time buying over 400 books on Monday! We can't wait to share them with more kids very soon!

Congratulations to all of our speech and debate program participants for their excellent speeches! Over winter break, our founders, Celine and Ro, had the thrill of coaching students in extemporaneous speaking, SPAR, and impromptu. We even had two scholarship students who attended for free! Students gained speaking, reading, researching, and anylatic skills. At the end of our camp, we hosted a mock tournament. Congratulations to our winner, Pranaav! We cannot wait to see these kids continue to thrive in public speaking in the future.

Our CEO, Celine, and two of our directors, Candace and Mimi, were thrilled to buy over 200 books for kids this past week. We can't wait to pack them up into book bags to donate to kids across the Valley!
